Falconry Journal Pro ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and web services (collectively, the "App").

Please read this policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this privacy policy, please do not access the App.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

  • Account Information: Email address, username, and password when you create an account
  • Falconry Data: Bird information, weight records, feeding logs, kill records, notes, and photos you enter
  • Payment Information: When you subscribe to Pro, payment is processed by Stripe—we don't store your card details
  • Communications: When you contact support or provide feedback

Information Collected Automatically

  • Device Information: Device type, operating system, and unique device identifiers
  • Usage Data: Features used, actions taken, and time spent in the App
  • Log Data: IP address, browser type, and error logs for troubleshooting

Location Data

Falconry Journal Pro collects location data in two distinct ways, both tied to specific features you choose to use:

  • Foreground location (when the app is open): Collected only when you explicitly add a location to a record, such as kill records, hunts, or other activity entries. Used to associate the record with where it occurred.
  • Background location (when the app is closed or not in use): Collected during active Site Visits to create a location audit trail of where you traveled during the visit. While a Site Visit is in progress, the app records GPS coordinates (latitude, longitude, accuracy, altitude, and timestamp) at approximately 5-minute intervals, including when the app is closed or running in the background. Tracking stops automatically when you end the Site Visit. The data is stored on your device and, for Pro subscribers, synced to your account. We do not share location data with any third parties.

You can revoke background location permission at any time in your device's system Settings. If background permission is revoked, Site Visit tracking will continue using foreground location only while the app is open.

Free Tier vs. Pro Subscription

Free Tier: All your falconry data stays entirely on your device. We only collect basic account information if you create an account.

Pro Subscription: Your data is synced to our secure cloud servers to enable multi-device access and sharing features.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the App's features and services
  • Process your subscription payments and manage your account
  • Sync your data across devices when you use Pro subscription
  • Enable bird sharing features with other users you authorize
  • Generate AI-powered insights about your birds (Pro feature)
  • Respond to your comments, questions, and support requests
  • Send you technical notices, updates, and security alerts
  • Monitor and analyze trends, usage, and activities to improve the App
  • Detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent or unauthorized access

How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information only in the following situations:

With Your Consent

When you use bird sharing features to share data with other users. You control exactly what is shared and with whom.

Service Providers

We work with third-party companies to provide our services:

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS): Cloud infrastructure and data storage
  • Stripe: Payment processing for subscriptions
  • OpenAI: AI-powered insights feature (Pro only—no personally identifiable information is sent)

AI Data Sharing - Your Control

No data is shared with AI partners unless you explicitly engage with AI features. When you use AI-powered features (such as the AI Assistant or AI Falconry Assistant), only the specific bird data needed for your query is sent to our AI provider. This data is used solely to generate your response and is not stored or used for training.

You can disable all AI features in the app's Settings by enabling the "AI Opt Out" toggle. When enabled, all AI features are hidden and no data will be sent to AI partners.

Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities.

Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data:

  • Encryption in Transit: All data transmitted between your device and our servers uses TLS 1.2+ encryption
  • Encryption at Rest: Data stored on our servers is encrypted using AES-256
  • Authentication: Secure authentication via AWS Cognito with optional multi-factor authentication
  • Access Controls: Strict access controls limit who can access your data
  • Regular Audits: We regularly review and update our security practices

While we strive to protect your information, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. Specifically:

  • Active Account: Data is retained while your account is active
  • Cancelled Subscription: Your data remains accessible until you delete your account
  • Account Deletion: Data is deleted from our servers within 30 days of account deletion
  • Local Data: Data stored locally on your device remains until you uninstall the App

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

  • Access: Request a copy of your personal data
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data
  • Portability: Export your data in a machine-readable format (CSV)

Children's Privacy

The App is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own, including the United States where our servers are located. These countries may have data protection laws different from your country.

By using the App, you consent to the transfer of your information to the United States and other countries where we operate. We take steps to ensure your data receives adequate protection.
